Hehe, this is one of my favorite stories of all time. But to review it I need to do some heavy duty research. So everyone must wait. If you are a fan of Japanese literature and have not read this… for shame. Start now!
Father: Why did you not become mine God!?
God: “Because you never believed in yourself. You thought you could make God’s power your own? Don’t make me laugh. You think stealing something powerful makes you great? You’re nothing but a cunning thief. You should have stayed satisfied inside the flask where you belong. All you have ever done is use the strength of others to grab godhood. You haven’t grown at all.
Father: “I wanted to become a perfect being! I wanted to understand God! I wanted to know everything about the world! So, why do you oppose me? Who are you?!
God: “I am what humans call the world, Or the universe or God or truth or all or one. And I am you. . . The truth brings despair to those who dare to reach above their station. This is the end you wished for.” ― Hiromu Arakawa, Fullmetal Alchemist 2001-2010
The correct relationship will make a person bloom. He becomes more himself, his talents deepen, his personality grows, and he thrives. But the wrong relationship will produce the opposite. The things that were once so vital no longer matter. His talents disappear, his individuality fades, and he wilts. -Jennifer Moore
Here is a small clip by the original head designer for Beauty and the Beast (1991) on Beast’s transformation into a man. I also includef a clip of the raw animatipn for this scene. Glen Keane primarily hand drew this scene and really put his heart and soul into it. Those who know me, also know how much I love animation and how I especially love this animated scene. I have a special love for stories where people transform inside. What I love about this animated scene specifically is how we as an audience can really see his complete transformation come to life through art. Art is a powerful thing, which leaves impressions on us. It is because artists implant a part of themselves into their work. Really, a part of their souls. I hope you enjoy thees clips if you are interested!
I felt I should share this video again. Whenever I see it, I feel such a sense of wonder and peace. True love is the most beautiful thing in the world and we all long for it. And I know we recognize it when we see it.
I really like this quite from Leo Tolstoy which says,”Love, true love, love that denies itself and transfers itself to another, is the awakening within oneself of the highest universal principle of life.” (A Confession, 1882).
For those who have not seen this video, I hope you enjoy it!
